Subject:  Arts and Creative Expression towards Social Change

Hello! My name is Liliana and a senior at university in upstate New York. Since last semester, I have been working on my senior year Independent project, which looks at how the arts and creative expression can be used as an instrumental tool to bring about awareness, critical thinking, solidarity amongst people and thus promote social change. Although I'm focusing mostly on the youth in pushing forward this movement, I am aware that the effort and possibility of this is present in and needed from every individual. I am organizing a two day Mini-Festival to take place at the beginning of May this year. I am trying to bring a speaker from outside to either give a talk on art and social change, or to offer a workshop for students that incorporate the same idea. I'm wondering if there is someone (possibly an artist) I could get in contact with that would be able and available to come on one of the days to give a talk or workshop at my university? The dates are May 5th and 6th, 2011. I will also work on a proposal to ask for funding. I would sincerely appreciate it and I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I was a student there and I would like to get in touch with someone who I can talk to about what happened. I am doing well for what I have gone threw and am 31 now and am just starting to come to terms with my past. Karen Dentz was my clinician. I felt like the reason I was at Devereux was my fault up until recently I blamed myself for everything that led me to Devereux. Everything still does not make sense but it will soon I am sure.
